In November
1989 the fifth and sixth class pupils of Inchicronan Central School
received an invitation to attend a gathering of European schools (SCOLA)
which was to take place in the city of Rennes, the capital of Brittany
in France. For the occasion they were hosted by families in the town
of Thorigne/Fouillard (close to Rennes) and the following Easter, children
from Thorigne were welcomed in Crusheen where they stayed with families
of the fifth and sixth classes.
The arrangement
continued every two years until 1996 when Thorigne - Fouillard twinned
with Lusk in Co. Dublin. From then on the town Council in Thorigne /Fouillard
wished all school visits to involve schools in Lusk.
This was
an outstanding educational experience for all those who took part and
resulted in the publication, by the Clare Education Centre, of a booklet
and video covering most aspects of the venture.
