FOOTBALL SEASON BEGINS

The primary schools football season got off to a flying start on Wednesday 22nd at our local pitch. Our boys are in Division 1 this year having won the Div. 2 title last Autumn. On Wednesday they were up against the might of Ennis National School and indeed they played excellently despite losing by 9 points. After the game Mr. Stack of Ennis National School complimented our boys on their brave performance. He said that all his players were in sixth class and that they have over 700 pupils in their school. This was a good team performance in which Bryan McInerney played a captain's part. Briain Dillon, Jamie Fitzgibbon and Anthony Rodgers were particularly impressive also.

Team: C.Hayes, P. McNamara, J.Fitzgibbon, A.Rodgers, C.O'Loughlin, B.McInerney, M.Roseingrave, B.Dillon, G.Roseingrave, R.Halpin, P.O'Malley, S.Loughrey, L.Hayes, E.O'Donnell, D.Kearns. Subs. (all played) D.Rodgers, C.Vaughan, C.Halpin.

On the day we also played a challenge game against the girls from Ennis National School. We haven't enough girls to make up a team so we enlisted the help of 3rd and 4th class boys, and it was a very worthwhile experience. Youen Horner had an excellent game in goals while outfield, Sinéad O'Doherty, Mark Perrill and Fiona O'Rourke were particularly impressive.

Squad: Sinéad O'Doherty, Aoife O'Brien, Fiona O'Rourke, Ruth Kearney, Siobhán McNamara, Sarah Cunningham, Eilish Cleary, Claire O'Brien, Aine McNamara, Emer Varley, Youen Horner, James McNamara, Ultan Kearns, Dermot Molony, Dayle Gleeson, Christopher Hurley, David Kearney, Mark Perrill & Lorcan Waters

MUSICAL EVENING

2 Singer/Songwriters of note, Jim McKee and Paul Mulligan, will perform in The Highway Inn on Friday night October the 15th at 9 p.m. in aid of the school music programme. Funds raised will be used to bring musicians to the school and by doing so instil in the children a love of music and a love of performance. We also hope to purchase some instruments to give pupils a chance to try different ones. Tickets are €10.00 and are available from the school, Clarke's or O'Malley's. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

HEALTH SERVICE

The Mid-Western Health Board is undertaking a pilot project in selected schools and classes including our school during the school year beginning September 2004. Classes include Junior Infants and Senior Infants. The project involves the provision of a Personal Health Record to parents.
This record will consist of
1. The results of each child's vision and hearing screening tests.
2. A record of whether or not a medical examination was indicated for each child and the results of such examination, if indicated.
3. A record of the vaccines each child received in school.
4.
