GIRLS' FOOTBALL
Our girls have gained valuable experience
from their first two outings. They lost their first game to Ballyea
on 26th September by 1-7 to 0-2. Niamh Moloney and Claire O`Brien were
the point scorers. Our second game was played in Crusheen on Wednesday
last and Feakle were the opposition on this occasion. The final score
was Feakle 4-3 to 2-3 for us. Jennifer Hansbury 1-1, Emer Varley 0-2
and Aine McNamara 1-0 were our scorers. The girls have tried really
hard and are improving with each outing. They play their next game in
Crusheen on Tuesday next, against Kilmurry.
BOYS' FOOTBALL
The boys began their campaign with a game
against Ballynacally at Ballyea pitch on Tuesday, 26th September. Although
many of the boys were playing their first game of football, they played
extremely well and almost snatched victory in the dying moments. The
final score was Ballynacally 2-2 to 1-3 for Crusheen. Colin Vaughan
1-2 and Luke Hayes 0-1 were our scorers.
Our second game was played in a downpour at Crusheen pitch on Tuesday
against Lisdoonvarna. We started quite well and dominated the early
part of the game. Lisdoonvarna adapted to the conditions better than
we did however, and won the game by 3-3 to 0-3. Colin Vaughan got our
scores. Youen Horner played a captain`s part in both games and Domhnaill
Rodgers also worked tirelessly.
NATIONAL PET WEEK

As part of National Pet Week we were delighted
to welcome "celebrity" vet Cathy Byrne from neighbouring Tulla,
to the school last Tuesday. Cathy, who brought her pet cats with her
spoke to the children on the issues involved in taking care of their
furry friends; health, hygiene, feeding and safety. The children very
much enjoyed the session and our thanks to Cathy for sharing her time
and expertise with us.
OUTSTANDING
ATTENDANCE
The awards for outstanding attendance during
the past year were presented during the week.
The supreme awards went to Niamh Moloney (4th class) and Colin Halpin
(5th class). Awards for just one day absent - Aislinn Mullins (2nd class),
Hannah Leonard (4th class), Mark Perrill (5th class) and Sarah Cunningham
(5th class).
DONATING
Children often have growth spurts and can
outgrow their uniforms long before the garments are worn out.
If you have any parts of the school uniform at home (never to be worn
again!), in good condition, we would greatly appreciate it if you would
donate them to the school.
INSERVICE

Reminder that the school will be closed
on Monday, 9th October for Inservice Training for teachers.
PEN FRIENDS
The pupils of second class are currently
writing letters to their new pen-pals in Stonehall National School,
Newmarket-on-Fergus.
Second class pupils are discovering new friends, sharing common interests,
while at the same time improving their letter-writing skills!

HEALTHY EATING POLICY
Our Healthy Eating Policy has been in operation
now since January and on the whole has been a tremendous success. At
the time we stated that the policy would be reviewed at the beginning
of this academic year, if you have any comments or suggestions to make
please contact Anne Cleary.
UNIFORMS
We would ask that pupils label
all parts of their school uniform (jackets, tracksuit top, shirts
and polo shirts) to avoid confusion at P.E. times etc.
