ALL STAR AWARD

Congratulations to Conor Cleary (2nd class) who will receive a Community Games "All Star" Award on Friday night next, 27th October in the West County Hotel in Ennis. Conor represented the county in the U8 art competition in Mosney last summer and was awarded a silver medal for his efforts.

READING INITIATIVE

Clare Co. Library plan to embark on an exciting reading initiative involving children in all National Schools in the County. The idea is to have a reading challenge between schools in Co. Clare and Nova Scotia in Canada, beginning this November. Pupils are asked to take up the challenge to read as much as they can during the year, using books at school, at home and from the public library. Each child will be issued with a special reading log. The same reading logs will be used by Canadian children.
We hope to start this challenge after half-term and look forward to your support in this matter.

"GRANDAD SAYS ......."

On Thursday, 26th October pupils from 1st to 4th class got the opportunity to view a performance of "Grandad says …" by Cups and Crowns Educational Theatre Company. The performance was followed by an enjoyable workshop in which pupils from first, second and third class participated. The production and workshop dealt with themes of childhood and the children gained a deeper understanding of growing old.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Once again this year we will be participating in the Christmas Child Appeal - also known as the Shoebox Appeal. To help children who have little to celebrate Christmas, the children are asked to fill an empty shoebox with gifts for a child aged 2 to 14. Full particulars are outlined in the accompanying leaflet. If you would like to donate a box please bring it to the school along with €3 for posting no later than Friday, 10th November. Participation in this project is voluntary.

PARENTS` ASSOCIATION

Bag packing took place recently on the mornings of September 29th & 30th. Unfortunately the number of volunteers was very disappointing; however we managed to raise some of the funds needed for speech & drama classes for the school. More is needed so further fundraising will be arranged at a later date. A big thank you to those who volunteered their time and to those who left a donation.

ENROLMENT MASS
