GORDON
D'ARCY

We were delighted to welcome well-known
artist, author and environmentalist Gordon D'Arcy to the school last
week. Gordon took the children on field trips around the locality where
they examined stone walls, streams, vegetation and wild life. He then
returned to the classroom and displayed his amazing artistic talents
while working with the children. We would like to thank Gordon for sharing
his immense knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment with us. Our
thanks also to the Clare Education Centre who part-funded these visits
to the school under a pilot project on local studies.
HEALTHY EATING
POLICY
We have been working on developing
healthy eating guidelines for our school. A group of parents teachers
and children have come together to work on these guidelines. This work
has been part of the Healthy Eating in Schools Project supported by
the Mid Western Health Board. The aim is to help all those involved
in our school community - parents, children and staff in developing
positive and responsible attitudes to eating and to appreciate the contribution
that good food makes to health.
Attached please find a copy of the draft guidelines for our school.
We would appreciate it if you could read these and forward any comments
or changes you wish to make to Anne Cleary before Friday November 11th.
Many thanks for your ongoing interest and support.
PARENTING WORKSHOPS
Mary Carew, a guidance counsellor,
will present a series of four workshops for teachers and parents of
9-12 year olds at the Clare Education Centre, commencing November -
December 2005. Phone 065-6845500 for details.
ENROLMENT
MASS
Our First Communion Class, along
with our Confirmation Class have begun their preparations for their
"big day" on the 6th of May and Pentecost Sunday. Their enrolment
ceremony took place in Crusheen Church last Sunday. It was a beautiful
ceremony and a sincere thanks to every one involved. The dates of the
special celebrations for the First Communion Class are as follows:
Saturday 19th November Ballinruan Church at 7.00p.m.
Sunday 18th December Crusheen Church at 11.30 a.m.
SPORT
AND GAMES
School basketball leagues (boys
& girls) for pupils from 3rd to 6th classes have just commenced.
Games are played at morning break and lunch time: More about this later.
The Primary Schools Football Leagues are now over. In our last newsletter
we neglected to mention our first round games. The boys had a tremendous
victory over Quin. A late goal from Conor O'Loughlin was enough to give
them a 2 point win after a thoroughly exciting game in Crusheen. Rory
Halpin and Jamie Fitzgibbon got the other scores. Final score 3-2 to
1-6.
The girls put up a brave performance before going down to Clooney in
their first game. Elish Cleary was the scorer in chief while Siobhan
McNamara, Ruth Kearney and Sarah Cunningham also did particularly well.
CHRISTMAS
CARDS

With this newsletter
to day you will receive a pack of beautiful Christmas Cards that we
