HEALTHY EATING
As part of our S.P.H.E.
and Green Schools Programme, we are in the process of drawing up Healthy
Eating Guidelines for the school. These guidelines should, we hope,
reflect the needs of the whole school community. A committee consisting
of representatives of the Parents' council, Board of Management and
school staff will draw up draft guidelines, which will be circulated
for discussion and feedback before being finalised.
SCHOOL MASS
On Wednesday 21st
September, we celebrated a beginning of School Year Mass in the school.
In the Mass we thanked God for the many blessing he has given to us
and asked that he might help us all during the coming school year. We
would like to thank Fr. Paul Ryan for celebrating the Mass with us.
AMERICAL
VISITORS
We were delighted
to welcome a group of thirty retired American Teachers to the school
in September. The teachers, who are on a coach tour of Ireland, were
entertained by the children with a selection of tunes and songs. They
enjoyed their visit immensely. Mr. Kearney, school principal, gave them
a talk on the Irish education system and this was followed by a question
and answer session and refreshments.
SPEECH
AND LANGUAGE
Speech and Language
Classes with Mrs. Peggy O'Reilly are currently underway every Thursday
afternoon in the school. An exciting fundraising project is being prepared.
More about that later!
"HOW
SCHOOLS HAVE CHANGED
"
Pupils in 1st and
2nd classes would like to thank their parents and grandparents for kindly
contributing information for their history project. Information came
from all over the country and in many forms and the children greatly
enjoyed their research. We hope to launch our work on our school website.
ENROLMENT
MASS
An Enrolment Mass
for First Holy Communion Children, Confirmation Candidates and their
families will be held on October 23rd at 11.30 a.m. in Crusheen Church.
Date for First Holy Communion: First Holy Communion for second class
pupils will be celebrated on Saturday 6th May 2006.
FOOTBALL
Last week our Boys'
Football Team was narrowly defeated by Kilkishen. The Boys were two
points ahead at half time but Kilkishen rallied with three unanswered
goals. Jamie Fitzgibbon, Rory Halpin and Conor O'Loughlin were among
the scorers in what was a good team display.
Our Girls' Football Team was defeated by Ballyea earlier this week.
Our girls put up a brave display against a very strong Ballyea team.
Eilis Cleary was the scorer in chief, with superb displays from Siobhan
McNamara and Jennifer Hansbury.
Girls
Intermediate Football Champions

Members of the victorious
Crusheen Ladies Intermediate Football Team, brought the winners trophy
around to all classes recently and gave treats to the children. Maria
O'Donnell (capt.), Caroline Brigdale, Maria O'Grady and Carol O'Donnell
(pictured in photo) were all members of successful school teams. Both
Maria O'Grady and Caroline Brigdale represented the school in Croke
Park in the INTO/GAA sevens.
Fire
Officer Visit

On Wednesday 11th
October, Fire Officer Jonathan Monnickendam visited the infant room
to talk to the children about Fire Safety. This tied in with the children's
weekly phonics lesson which focused this week on Fireman Fred. He asked
that all children would ensure that their parents would test their fire
alarms. Thank you to Jonathan for taking the time out to visit.
