READING ROCKS
Our biennial Book Week was held
from Monday, 12th February to Friday, 16th. During the week the children
were involved in a variety of book related activities. These included:
a visit to the local library, storytelling by Eddie Lenihan, buddy reading,
listening to audio books, online book quizes, extended story time, making
pop-up books, compiling Irish books, sharing their favourite books,
listening to jokes, book reviews and Irish poetry. Art Classes, during
the week, centered on book ideas. These included: painting a picture
of your favourite book character and from the Book Parade, making book
marks and books. But the highlight of the week was the Book Character
Parade. Both children and parents are to be commended on the great efforts
they made in dressing up for the occasion.

We are continuing to read on at
the Reading Challenge. The children at the school have read over 1,483
books since the challenge was launched in the school in November 2006.
Keep it up!
The Book Fair once again was a
tremendous success. Over €1,700 was spent, and as we earned 60%
commission on books we have received over €1,000 worth of books
for the Class Libraries. So once again many thanks to you all.
GREEN SCHOOL
DVD
Order forms have gone out for the
Green School DVD. We would appreciate it if all orders could be returned
to the school by Friday, 9th March.
OVER-CROWDED
CLASSROOMS
There will be a meeting in the
Oakwood Arms Hotel, Shannon on Thursday, 8th March at 8 p.m. to raise
the issue of over-crowded classrooms. Parents are invited to attend
to support this campaign.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to Niamh Moloney
and Youen Horner who achieved great success at the annual Community
Games Art Competition in Ennis recently. Niamh received first place
in the U12 category while Youen took fourth place in U14 category. In
total, fifteen pupils from the school took part in the competition.
Well done to all involved!
COLIN
TO REPRESENT CLARE
We heartily congratulate Colin
Halpin (fifth class), who has been chosen to represent Clare at the
Spar Kids sports day in DCU, Dublin. Children in the senior classes
recently took part in the Spar Kids Fit For Life competition and Colin
is Clare's lucky winner. On the day a pupil from each of the 26 counties
will gather in DCU where they will be trained and coached by Seán
Óg Ó Hailpín and Derval O Rourke and partake in
a day of fun and games.
