Schools' Cross Country Championships
Hugh crowds of young athletes braved
torrential rain and mucky conditions in Tulla on March 8th for the Schools'
Cross Country Championships. In spite of the conditions this was a day
of fun, a day not to be forgotten. We entered six teams and as in previous
years they did remarkably well.
The boys O/11 team got 2nd prize
in the team event: Jamie Fitzgibbon (5th), Anthony Rodgers (7th) and
Gerry Roseingrave (9th) were the scorers. Shane Loughrey, Conor O'Loughlin
and Domhnaill Rodgers were the other team members. Colin Vaughan (11th)
took an individual medal in the U/11 Boys. Luke Hayes, Mark Perrill,
John Roseingrave, Colin Waters and Colin Halpin completed this team.
Conor Cleary was the highest placed
in the boys U/8. Ross Hayes, Calum Turner, Mark Kearney, Gavin O'Brien
and Nick Pyett completed the team. Our U/8 girls came to the tape all
together in a bunch. Taylor Slattery was our first girl in this race
and she was followed closely by Aislinn Mullins, Lucy Riviere, Eleanor
Leonard, Ciara Mulligan and Grainne Burke.
In the U/11 girls Caoimhe Horner
(13th) and Jennifer Hansbury (14th) finished just outside the individual
medals. Hannah Leonard, Niamh Moloney, Emer Varley and Claire O'Brien
also scored very well in this race.
Our O/11 girls had only three members, Ruth Kearney, Sarah Cunningham
and Eilish Cleary. All three ran excellent races.
MUNSTER CREDIT UNION QUIZ.
Recently a team consisting of Lorcan
Waters (Capt.), Niamh Moloney, Kim Daffy and Emer Varley competed in
the Munster Credit Union Quiz. This team had already won the Clare title
for U/11, which qualified them to take part in the Munster Credit Union
Quiz. They gave a tremendous account of themselves in this competition
in Claughaun, Limerick last week and came 5th overall. They were only
five points behind the eventual winners. Mr. O'Leary would like to thank
the parents who provided transport on the day.
Mini-Sevens
Last Wednesday our boys competed
in the Mini-Sevens Hurling Competition held in Gurteen. As there was
an age limit we were missing some of our best players. However, our
young team battled bravely. We were narrowly defeated by the Gaelscoil,
Ennis in a tough game which could have gone either way. In our second
game, despite battling all the way, our boys were well beaten by Ennis
National School. No player could be faulted for effort and determination
with outstanding displays from Rory Halpin (Capt.), Gerry Roseingrave
and Youen Horner.
Mrs. Quin
"Help Charity & Save the Environment Appeal"
We were delighted with the response to our Mrs. Quin, "Help Charity
& Save the Environment Appeal". In total 23 bags of unwanted
clothing, household linens and footwear were collected. That means that
these unwanted items will not go to landfill, but rather will be sold
in the Mrs. Quin's Charity Shops for the Blind, or sent to the developing
world. Many thanks to all who contributed.
