Three In A Row
Clare Co. Council
Environmental Awareness Officer, Joan Tarmey visited the school last
Wednesday to assess us for our third Green Flag on behalf of An Taisce.
She spoke in depth with the Green School Committee; G.Roseingrave, D.Rodgers,
E.Cleary, S.Cunningham, D.Kearns, D.Molony, D.Hansbury, S.Hurley and
R.Kearney. She visited the various classrooms to hear of the wonderful
work the school is doing in Environmental Education.
The infants told her about their traffic survey and how you can save
energy by sharing cars. They explained our Healthy Eating Policy, displayed
their Water Project and Art Work on conservation. They also sang a song
about Goldilocks and the Re-cycling Bin.
1st & 2nd classes, showed their Bird-Feeding Project and Wormery.
They had also composed a Green School Rap which they performed using
their percussion instruments made from recycled materials!
3rd & 4th classes, have been involved in an Energy Project. They
also had produced Anti-Litter Posters and explained how our Litter Monitors
operate in the school.
5th & 6th classes, have been extremely busy conducting a Traffic
Survey, learning about Renewable Energy Resources in Ireland, monitoring
acid rain and working on Environmental Web Sites on the internet.
The good news is that Joan informed us before she left that she would
be recommending that we keep our flag for a further 2 years. She was
hugely impressed by everything she saw.

Christmas

A most enjoyable evening was held
in the local Church on December 21st as the pupils sang carols, played
music and recited seasonal prayers. Many thanks to staff and pupils
for making this a moving and memorable occasion and especially to Miss
